LANSING, Mich. — The 2015 Michigan High School Athletic Association Class D state champion girls basketball team from St. Ignace La Salle High School was honored with a special tribute by state Sen. Wayne Schmidt on Thursday.
The Saints, who defeated Pittsford on March 21 at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center, overcame a state-record-tying 20-point deficit to win 64-60, bringing home the state title to the Upper Peninsula.
“I could not be more proud of this team and its accomplishment in winning the state championship,” said Schmidt, R-Traverse City. “For high schoolers to display such an act of maturity to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds in a high-pressure situation with heart, determination and teamwork serves as an inspiration. It speaks to the character of them as individuals, their parents and coaches, and of the St. Ignace community. It’s an honor to represent them in the state Senate and present them with a special tribute.”
