LANSING, Mich.—State Sen. Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City, issued the following statement after Gov. Rick Snyder presented his Fiscal Year 2016 budget proposal Wednesday at a joint hearing of the Senate and House Appropriations committees:
“The governor’s budget plan continues to strengthen the foundation that’s been built over the past four years to turn our state around and make it a better place for future generations. I appreciate the governor’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and paying down long-term debt as we work to move Michigan forward. Perhaps the most important part of forging Michigan’s future is ensuring the next generation receives the best possible education. I am happy to see that this budget continues that focus, particularly in early childhood education, community colleges and vocational education and skilled trades training.
“I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues and the governor’s administration as we begin the budget process.”
